“Wan Khao Phansa” (the beginning of the Rains Retreat) falls on July 30, 2026
(the first day of the waning moon of the eighth lunar month).
On this day, Theravada Buddhist monks make a formal resolution
to remain in a single, designated location throughout the three-month rainy season,
in accordance with the monastic discipline (Vinaya).
During this period, they do not spend the night elsewhere—a practice commonly known as “Cham Phansa.”
